LVEDC Receives Two International Economic Development Awards
By Colin McEvoy on October 15, 2019
The Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) has received two awards from the world’s largest and most prestigious organization serving economic developers.
LVEDC received an Excellence in Economic Development Gold Award for its 2018 Annual Report, as well as a Silver Award for its Made Possible in Lehigh Valley video, from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
In both categories, LVEDC competed against economic development organizations in the largest population size (500,000 or greater), meaning the organization was selected ahead of much larger regions with far more resources available to them.
“We are truly honored to receive these recognitions from IEDC, which is a wonderful validation of the effectiveness of our marketing efforts,” said Don Cunningham, President & CEO of LVEDC.
LVEDC’s two-minute video kicked off the organization’s new Made Possible in Lehigh Valley initiative earlier this year. That campaign seeks to increase outside awareness of the positive attributes Lehigh Valley has to offer, develop a positive image of the region, and market it as an attractive place to drive talent acquisition and retention
Created by Firerock Productions, the video conveys both the history and deep roots of Lehigh Valley, as well as the thoughtful progress and forward-thinking evolution of the region, much like the campaign itself.
“We’re pleased that this video continues to generate such widespread attention, because it truly embodies what Made Possible in Lehigh Valley is all about,” said Mike Keller, LVEDC Director of Marketing. “Made Possible is a storytelling platform through which we are sharing the stories and perspectives of individuals and companies here in Lehigh Valley.”
The video was also nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy earlier this year. It can be viewed on the LVEDC YouTube channel, and we encourage everyone to share it or embed it on your own websites and social media accounts.
The 32-page 2018 LVEDC Annual Report provides an overview of economic development in the Lehigh Valley from that year, including the region’s record-high GDP, Top 5 U.S. ranking for economic development, and 33 major business attraction, expansion, or retention projects resulting in the creation or retention of more than 7,400 jobs.
This marks the second consecutive year LVEDC has won an IEDC award for its annual report, with the 2017 report taking home a Silver Award last year.
“With our annual report, we seek not just to show what our organization has done in the past year, but also to tell the broader economic success story of the Lehigh Valley itself,” said Colin McEvoy, LVEDC Director of Communications, the primary author of the report. “We also strive to make it a very accessible and readable document, with a sleek and eye-catching design.”
Michelle Chrin has designed LVEDC’s annual report for the last three years, as well as the organization’s Commercial Real Estate Reports, Investment Opportunities brochure, and other marketing materials.
LVEDC has been honored by IEDC in previous years as well. In addition to last year’s annual report recognition, LVEDC won a Silver Award for Best Video/Multimedia Promotion in 2016 and a Gold Award for Best Multi-Year Economic Development Program in 2013.
