A subsidiary of Olympus Corporation that manufactures everything from microscopes and videoscopes to testing equipment and X-ray analyzers is establishing a new microscopy distribution and service center in the Lehigh Valley.

Evident Corporation, a leader in the design and manufacture of life science and industrial solutions designed to make the world healthier and safer, will establish its new center in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII in Bethlehem.

The company chose the site because of its central Northeast location, a well-developed transportation infrastructure, close proximity to the Lehigh Valley International Airport, and because the location is attractive to its workforce, said Arnold Huang, Evident’s President of Americas Sales and Marketing.

“To continue to provide high-quality support to our customers, it was imperative that the new space for our microscopy distribution and service center meet certain key criteria,” Huang said. “(The region) offered Evident excellent space in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII that delivered on our business requirements.”

Located amid the Northeast’s life sciences supercluster, the Lehigh Valley is particularly well-positioned for growth in the Life Science and Pharmaceutical industry. It has been identified as one of the high-value target sectors in the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation’s (LVEDC) new three-year strategic plan.

The Lehigh Valley has more than 170 life sciences establishments and has added 2 million square feet in the last two years. Global life sciences leaders that already have a major  presence here include Olympus, B. Braun, Sharp, OraSure Technologies, Thermo Fisher, and McKesson.

“Evident is joining a growing life sciences sector in one of the most desirable locations in the Northeast market,” said LVEDC President & CEO Don Cunningham. “We have a history of innovation here. From the days of Bethlehem Steel to the development of the nation’s first rapid HIV test was made. Scientists in the Lehigh Valley are undertaking critical research on groundbreaking drug therapies, personalized medicine, gene silencing, and more.”

Evident’s new roughly 40,000 square-foot center at 240 Emery Street will house about 30 employees and serve as Evident’s primary distribution and repair hub for microscopes in the Americas. It is expected to open this summer.

Backed by state-of-the-art technologies, Evident products are widely used for quality control, inspection, and measurement. The company advances a comprehensive range of microscopes for pathology, hematology, IVF, and other clinical applications as well as for research and education.

Olympus Corporation announced in April it would separate its Scientific Solutions business to Evident Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary. Evident operates independently under the Olympus umbrella, with the reorganization giving it the autonomy and agility to respond quickly and more flexibly to the needs of industrial and life science customers.

“Evident, while continuing to provide best-in-class products, will expand its digital and cloud-based solutions to enhance the customer experience and to improve the overall workflow in the research and inspection fields,” said Yoshitake Saito, President & Representative Director of Evident. “With this greater management autonomy, we will promote agile product development and open innovation, which we believe will increase the speed of product development.”

Evident leased the space from J.G. Petrucci Company, Inc., a full-service design/build specialist and developer. Petrucci will build the new center, with Iron Hill Construction Management, part of the Petrucci network, completing the work to customize the space, according to Project Executive Joe Petrucci.

“We are thrilled to welcome Evident to 240 Emery and LVIP VII,” Petrucci said. ‘LVIP has been attracting high-quality businesses and jobs to the park for years, and this deal is no different. This is a world-class facility, and Evident is exactly the type of company we want to partner with.”

J.G. Petrucci Company has delivered more than 800 design/build projects for local, regional, and national leaders in a variety of industries. The firm also owns and operates more than 5 million square feet of commercial, industrial, and retail properties, as well as more than over 2,000 luxury apartment homes.
