New Video Highlights Manufacturing Sector of the Lehigh Valley
By Colin McEvoy on December 21, 2018
The Lehigh Valley’s manufacturing sector, which drives much of the region’s economic growth, was in the spotlight at this year’s March of Dimes Commercial & Industrial Real Estate Awards.
In honor of the event’s 25th year, rather than honoring a traditional “Project of the Year” as usual, the March of Dimes event committee decided to recognize the manufacturing sector as a whole in the Lehigh Valley.
“Over the last 25 years, this diverse market sector has paved the way for over 680 manufacturing operations while employing over 30,000 people,” the video states, “and developing such products from medical supplies to aeronautic components, guitars, crayons, and trucks, to name a few.”
The video was made possible by LVEDC, which served as the video sponsor for this year’s Commercial & Industrial Real Estate Awards. Colin McEvoy, LVEDC Director of Communications, also sits on the event committee.
Manufacturing is the second-largest sector in the Lehigh Valley economy, making up $7.4 billion – or 18.4 percent – of the region’s $40.1 billion gross domestic product.
It was the fastest-growing economic sector for 2017 in terms of economic output, and according to a recent LVEDC analysis, manufacturing plays a far greater role in the Lehigh Valley than it does the overall national economy, where it makes up only 13 percent of the total GDP.
“The Lehigh Valley has evolved to be a substantial logistics network in the United States, so we’ve been able to bring our whole supply chain together, from manufacturing to logistics, to be able to serve our customers very effectively,” said Pete Ruggiero, Crayola Executive Vice President, Global Operations & Information Solutions, said in the video.
The video can be viewed above and viewed directly on YouTube here. It was created by the Lehigh Valley-based production company ubiFire. LVEDC and the March of Dimes Commercial & Industrial Real Estate Awards committee encourages viewers to share the video or embed it on their own websites.
