LVstartup: Penn State and City Center Lehigh Valley Join Forces

The newest issue of LVstartup, a monthly e-newsletter focused on the needs of startups and entrepreneurs in the Lehigh Valley.

Penn State University and City Center Lehigh Valley have joined forces to open a new community-based program for entrepreneurs in downtown Allentown called the Lehigh Valley LaunchBox.

That news is leading the latest edition of LVstartup, a monthly e-newsletter written and distributed by the Entrepreneurship Council of the Lehigh Valley.

Released the first Thursday of each month, LVstartup is focused on the needs of startups in the region, providing information about local events, news, and resources available to entrepreneurs.

The newest issue, released today, highlighted the Lehigh Valley LaunchBox, a business accelerator program that will award micro grants to budding entrepreneurs who have scalable business ideas, and connects the grant recipients to business leaders, academic partners, and Penn State alumni.

The LVstartup featured other news stories, including the social media company STRIVR joining Ben Franklin TechVentures, the Southside Bethlehem Keystone Innovation Zone awarding grants to three companies, and Year in Review stories for the Allentown Ecomic Development Corporation and the Bridgeworks Enterprise Center.

The new issue also highlights various upcoming events, like Northampton Community College hosting an information session about the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, Lehigh Valley Startup Digest and LVTech’s Tech Happy Hour, and the 15th annual Lehigh Valley Collegiate Career Expo.

Each month, LVstartup also spotlights a Lehigh Valley startup. This issue, the company is Netizen Corporation which was recently named Emerging Business of the Year by Lehigh Valley Business. A cybersecurity software company located in Upper Saucon Township, Netizen provides solutions focusing on application security, software assurance, and Agile development.

The Entrepreneurship Council of the Lehigh Valley is a council of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC), whose mission is to improve the entrepreneurial environment of the region by listening to its entrepreneurs, identifying their unmet needs, communicating regional entrepreneurship initiatives between council members, and connecting local resources to continue the development of new entrepreneurial support initiatives.

LVstartup receives input from various organizations that serves the local entrepreneurial community, including LVEDC, the Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation at Lehigh University, Lehigh Valley TechAllentown Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), the Bethlehem Department of Community and Economic DevelopmentBen Franklin Technology Partners, the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV) and others.
