LVEDC Unveils New Video Highlighting Lehigh Valley’s Life Science Industry
By Colin McEvoy on January 25, 2016
The Lehigh Valley is an innovation hub that boasts all the necessary elements for a company in the life, biological, and biomedical science fields to be successful. Now, an exciting new video commissioned by the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) will help spread the word about those economic assets across the nation.
LVEDC has released the first in a series of six upcoming new videos created by the Emmy Award-winning FireRock Productions. Four of the videos will focus on the region’s four target sectors – high performance manufacturing, high value business services, life science research & manufacturing, and food & beverage processing – while the others will highlight the Lehigh Valley’s entrepreneurial community and redevelopment projects.
Here is the direct link to the video on YouTube.
Online video traffic is predicted to make up to 80 percent of all consumer Internet traffic in 2019, according to the Cisco Visual Networking Index. That amount is up from 64 percent in 2014, meaning a rise of 16 percent in just five years.
“Internet users are consuming more video than ever, especially as Internet speeds grow faster and a growing number of people are opting to watch video online rather than through cable,” said Michael Keller, LVEDC Director of Marketing. “Now is the perfect time to spread the word about the Lehigh Valley through this fast-growing medium.”
The inaugural video puts the spotlight on life science research and manufacturing, focusing on the many economic assets that make the region a perfect microcosm for that industry, including an abundance of water and natural gas, an exceptional healthcare system, a world-class workforce, and a superior transportation infrastructure.
“Pennsylvania is one of the United States’ largest producers of natural gas, and electric supply and cost is very competitive with the rest of the country,” said Don Cunningham, LVEDC President and CEO. “All the key infrastructure assets that are need to develop a bio/life science business are right here in large supply and very affordable.”
The video includes interviews with such Lehigh Valley business executives as Nacho Abia, President and CEO of Olympus Corporation of the Americas, and Bruce Heugel, Senior Vice President and CFO of B. Braun Medical Inc., among others.
