Each week, Karianne Gelinas, Director of Talent Supply with the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC), will provide an update and additional information about its ongoing initiative to identify talent supply and demand issues in the region and create a strategy that results in a broader, ongoing understanding of the Lehigh Valley workforce. (See past updates.)
What’s all the buzz about apprenticeships? They are one of the most recommended current best practices in preparing the talent pipeline with skills demanded by employers.
If you are interested in learning about them and connecting with others who are involved in the creation and maintenance of apprenticeships, an informative place to start is Workforce GPS.
Workforce GPS is a function of the ApprenticeshipUSA Community of Practice, an online resource for stakeholders from throughout the Apprenticeship system and its partners to share information and learn from your peers regarding the innovative strategies and partnerships being used to train U.S. workers.
According to its website, the community covers all things apprenticeship in industries ranging from the traditional, such as construction and manufacturing, to non-traditional industries using the “earn while you learn” model to train workers, including health care, renewable energy, transportation, and other growing industries.
