Each week, Karianne Gelinas, Director of Talent Supply with the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC), will provide an update and additional information about its ongoing initiative to identify talent supply and demand issues in the region and create a strategy that results in a broader, ongoing understanding of the Lehigh Valley workforce. The ongoing LVEDC talent supply initiative is focused on five key target sectors. They were identified based upon:

• The portion of the region’s workforce/talent employed by these sectors
• Strong economic forecast in these sectors
• Local workforce skills/talent gap

The chart below shows those target sectors and how they grown as a portion of the Lehigh Valley gross domestic product (GDP) over a five-year span:
