LVEDC Talent Supply Update: Employment by Top Occupations

Each week, Karianne Gelinas, Director of Talent Supply with the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC), will provide an update and additional information about its ongoing initiative to identify talent supply and demand issues in the region and create a strategy that results in a broader, ongoing understanding of the Lehigh Valley workforce. As we discussed in our last update, the LVEDC talent supply study is underway. Telephone and email surveys have begun with businesses within targeted industry clusters, and we’re undertaking interviews with stakeholders like educational institutions, workforce development organizations, and professional associations.
The study is focused on such key target sectors as health care, finance and insurance, professional and technical services, manufacturing, and transportation and warehousing. Last week, we broke down the employment numbers within those target sectors.
This week, I’d like to share with you a breakdown of the employment figures by top occupations in the Lehigh Valley. As you can see below, laborers and material movers are at the top of the list, followed by retail salespersons, food preparation and serving workers, and registered nurses:
