With $553,495 from private sector companies and organizations, 2017 marks the single largest investment year in LVEDC history.

The Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) saw another record-breaking year in investment in 2017.

LVEDC received $553,495 from private sector companies and organizations who invested in regional economic growth, making 2017 the single largest investment year in the organization’s 23-year history.

“The Lehigh Valley economy could never have experienced the levels of growth and success that we’ve seen in recent years without the investment of region’s private sector,” said Don Cunningham, LVEDC President & CEO.

“This support makes it possible for our organization to implement the marketing, recruitment, and strategic initiatives that have allowed us to compete with markets much larger than our own,” Cunningham said. “We are deeply grateful to our private sector partners for their investment in the economic development of the Lehigh Valley.”

LVEDC received $505,068 in private investment for 2017, as well as $48,427 in sponsorship from events the organization hosted throughout the year, for a combined total of $553,495.

“We are fortunate to have so many companies in the Lehigh Valley that understand the importance of investing in economic growth,” said Jaime Whalen, LVEDC Vice President of Administration and Investor Relations.

Those figures do not include a combined $155,000 in public investment from Lehigh and Northampton counties, who are the two single largest investors to LVEDC, Whalen said.

The organization will be publicly voicing its appreciation for its investors, according to Michael Keller, LVEDC Director of Marketing.

As in previous years, the organization plans to take out full-page advertisements in The Morning Call listing all investors by industry, as well as billboards along Route 22 acknowledging investors who have contributed $5,000 or more, Keller said.

LVEDC’s annual operating budget is $2.9 million, with nearly half of the revenue coming from private entities or earnings on economic development financing. Other revenue comes from public sources, including about $1.45 million from hotel tax proceeds.

The public-private mission of LVEDC is to market the economic assets of the Lehigh Valley and to create partnerships to lead the recruitment, growth, and retention of employers.
