First LVstartup of the New Year is Released

The year’s first issue of LVstartup – a monthly e-newsletter for entrepreneurs and startups in the Lehigh Valley – has been released.
Among the stories highlighted are the President and CEO of Crayola discussing why the Lehigh Valley is the right place to do business; a startup that makes “smart balls” raising $1 million; two Lehigh University graduates creating a portable bowling machine for cricket practice; and the 2016 Lehigh Valley Business of the Year awards.

Other stories include: first-year Penn State students presenting nnovative ideas to transform the Lehigh Valley campus, a video highlighting the Lehigh Valley’s manufacturing sector winning a prestigious award, Allentown high school students taking “college prep” to the next level, and LVEDC’s newly-released Business Resource Guide.
The latest LVstartup also spotlights several upcoming events, including a free Lehigh Valley dinner event called “Portfolio Software Value Management,” an LVTech meetup focused on information security, and the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Career Expo (LVCCE), which targets new graduates and students for internship and employment opportunities.
Each month, LVstartup features a Lehigh Valley startup. This issue, the company is Altor Locks, a Bethlehem-based startup that has created the world’s lightest high-security bike lock.

LVEDC’s Entrepreneurship Council of the Lehigh Valley aims to improve the entrepreneurial environment of the region by listening to its entrepreneurs, identifying their unmet needs, communicating regional entrepreneurship initiatives between council members, and connecting local resources to continue the development of new entrepreneurial support initiatives.
LVstartup receives input from various organizations that serves the local entrepreneurial community, including LVEDC, the Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation at Lehigh University, Lehigh Valley Tech, the Allentown Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), the Bethlehem Department of Community and Economic Development, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Penn State Lehigh Valley, and others.
