This woman-run business is a small, specialty cut flower farm that grows a diverse selection of unique and heirloom varieties of flowers and foliage.? ?? Started by Michelle Kenstler in 2018, @periwinkleflowerfarm was borne of Michelle’s lifelong love of flowers. After spending years training, working on farms, and working for a local flower retailer, she decided to take the plunge and start her own floral growing and design business. The Seed Farm’s incubator program helped to make this leap possible by lowering the risks and costs associated with new farm ownership.? ?? We are thrilled and honored to see Periwinkle Flower Farm grow and thrive, serving the community through weekly flower subscriptions, farmers’ market sales, and a la carte sales directly from the farm. This summer, over two dozen girls ages 14 to 18 attended Lehigh Valley Let’s Build, a free camp that enables girls to explore career pathways in construction trades, project management, architecture, and engineering through hands-on experiences and visits to regional employers. “Our message to these young women is that you can find a fit somewhere in construction,” said Kristen Fallon, Vice President of Membership Services for the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter. #LVmadepossible #letsbuild #lehighvalley #construction #careers #build #architecture #engineering

Rob and Mandie Knowles of Upper Macungie Township started their own business by acquiring, renovating, and then renting a house in Lehigh County. The business has grown to the point that they now own and manage several rental properties in Allentown and its suburbs. Neither had a construction, contracting, or maintenance background before starting the company. Today, their three teenage daughters – Paige, Peyton, and Mikayla – support the family business doing property maintenance and construction work, and all are studying construction trades at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute while maintaining high grade point averages at high school.
