Upcoming Seminar Teaches the Best Way to Respond to an RFP

By Colin McEvoy on September 8, 2017

Do you know the best way to respond to a Request for Proposal (RFP)?

An upcoming seminar will teach best practices for writing, responding to, and evaluating a proposal, and will include panelists from top RFP requesters and submitters from organizations like OlympusGuardian Life Insurance, and the Allentown Economic Development Corporation.

The seminar will be held Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Guardian Life Insurance of America building at 6255 Sterners Way in Hanover Township, Northampton County. It will address why companies ask for RFPs, the best way to handle a response, and key terms and language that are important to understand.

Attendance is free, but pre-registration is required by Sept. 28. Click here to register online.

That seminar is being offered in partnership with the upcoming Lehigh Valley Meet the Buyers Expo, a bi-annual event that provides a unique opportunity to meet buyers face-to-face and network with other small businesses.

“The Lehigh Valley continues to excel in its ability to strengthen its business community,” said Sally Handlon, president of Handlon Business Resources and a member of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation’s (LVEDC) Local Sourcing and Business Diversity Council, which is organizing the event.

“This Expo workshop is another example of helping to meet the needs of the business community, as RFPs – which are generally a requirement of our larger business purchasers – is a dreaded process for smaller businesses,” Handlon said. “By providing some tips and completion direction, the response to an RFP will be better positioned for the requesting business and be less burdensome on the submitting business.”

More than 250 businesses attended the last Meet the Buyers Expo in 2015, where small businesses met face-to-face with government and private industry professionals to discuss procurement deals and business opportunities. Some of the Lehigh Valley’s largest companies were among the buyers, including  B. Braun, Martin Guitar, Crayola, PPL, Lutron Electronics, Mack Trucks, Olympus, the St. Luke’s University Health Network, and UGI Utilities.

The Meet the Buyers Expo will be held on Wednesday, October 18, at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. Click here for a full schedule and information about how to register.
